I am running the Womens 10k to raise funds for a new charity called SAVEBABIES THROUGH SCREENING FOUNDATION UK.   www.savebabiesuk.org

My Nephew Jack was diagnosed at 7 months with Krabbes Disease, a rare gentic illness for which there is no cure.   He was diagnosed too late for any treatment and passed away last year when he was only 21 months old.

 If babies with this condition are diagnosed at birth using newborn screening methods they can have a chance at life by receiving a bone marrow transplant.  In the UK we only screen for 5 conditions when we have the technology and facilities to screen for over 40.  Many of these conditions can be managed and controlled by medication and diet.  Early detection and intervention is the key.
