Story
Cycle for Life in Aid of Farleigh Hospice, 14th September 2008
Sunday 14th September: What my Poor Bottom Went Through for Charity: We did it! Huzzah! And don't our poor derrières know it! Even with a gell cussion on the bike seat it was still agony... my rear is just not designed for hours and hours of bike riding.
Please note: There is still time to sponsor me as the money is not collected in until the end of the month... hint, hint.
We actually cycled over the 50km because peeps took the route signs down before we had finished (needless to say we were last round the course). The cycle ride was incredibly hard physically, but with Wendy's good company, and the lovely Essex countryside (plus stops for lunch at Abbess Roding Church Fete and Pleshey Church for tea - they were having fund raising events too) we got through.
And even more importantly, with the magnificent motivation of the amount of money you good people have pledged for the charity, you helped keep our energy up, and you kept us determined so we managed to keep going right through to the finish.
So thank you all lots of lots for being so generous and helping such a worthy cause.
Hugs
Karen
P.S. We'll only do the 20km ride next year... hey, we've got nothing more to prove having survived the 50km. Note to self "Must find a comfortable bike seat before next year!"
12.Not long now until me and the knees have to go out on the road and go round all those pubs... pubs, did I say pubs? I obviously meant all those lovely Essex villages on our 50km bike ride (I must be mad). Anyway, to help me get through the day, please donate whatever you can spare to make my pub crawl... there I go again.... sponsored bike ride worthwhile.
Hospices give incredible comfort to patients and their families in the last days of life. Farleigh Hospice is reliant on public donations for part of their funding which means they have to raise £5,000 a day from charitable donations to provide free hospice care for the people of midEssex.
I have therefore said “Yes.” to a 50km bike ride on a route which visits all 8 of the beautiful Essex Rodings villages.
I have not asked my legs what they think about this sudden influx of exercise – which I can assure you they are not used to – but hope the legs will rise (and fall) to the occasion. To help me get through this grueling task (and the training beforehand) I need to know I am raising lots of dosh for charity, so please give generously.
When my Dad was dying from cancer there were no hospice beds available, so on a personal level I would like to help to give this last comfort to those in need. So in the words of Sir Bob Geldof: "Give us yer money!" Please sponsor me.
Hugs
Karen
