Background to my fundraising.

I have a hidden disability which can sometimes cause me to get very poorly, very quickly, and often with little or no warning, as a result I have had three life threatening crises in the last twelve months, which have resulted in lengthy hospitalisations.

I noticed a friends assistance dog would often pay me more attention, become very clingy and lick my hands excessively on days when I went on to become ill. I wondered if he was able to detect in some way that I was getting sick, before I noticed I was becoming ill myself.

I spoke to the organisation that trained him and asked what they thought, and if they could possibly train another dog for me. They felt I needed to seek help from a more specialist organisation and suggested I talk to Claire Guest of Cancer & Bio Detection Dogs.

Very soon, I was interviewed, my medics consulted and finally approved for a dog! I am now on the waiting list! The organisation has several dogs in training and it is hoped that one of them will eventually become my medical alert dog.
