Willow is the only UK charity supporting seriously ill 16 to 40 year olds by providing unique and positive Special Days. Since 1999 Willow has fulfilled more than 22,000 Special Days for young adults living with life-threatening conditions such as cancer, motor neurone disease and cystic fibrosis.

Story

I'm doing the 2014 London Marathon to support The Willow Foundation Charity and also in memory of my best friend John Platt who died last year.

John always wanted me to run again and tried to persuade me to do so for the 20 years since I retired from competitive athletics.

With my son Charlie I've decided to run again in John’s honour

I'm now out training 4 times a week, it's tough, I'm trying my best not to get any injuries on the way. This weekends half marathon should be a good test.

I'm trying to get in some runs in before the big event including

• Silverstone Half Marathon on 2nd March

After the marathon Charlie and I are going to tackle the 'Tri for Life' triathlon at Woburn Abbey on 7th September.
