The number of people diagnosed with cancer is growing, we're doing whatever it takes to help more people with cancer get the best care the UK has to offer, whoever and wherever they are. To donate, volunteer, raise money or campaign with us, call 0300 1000 200 or visit macmillan.org.uk

Story

Many thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, once again I've managed to find a completely crazy event to test myself with!

Billed as Britain's most brutal race, The Spine is a non stop 268 mile winter ultra-marathon encompassing the entire length of the Pennine Way and crossing some of the most beautiful, difficult and challenging terrain found in England.

From the website - "You will face the most extreme weather conditions England has to offer; deep snow, ice, wind and rain in a gruelling 7 day race from Edale to Kirk Yetholm.

It’s not just the conditions that are against you – your own body could become your worst enemy with tiredness, fatigue, sleep deprivation and exposure playing havoc with your performance."

Apparently I can run, snowshoe or even use cross-country skis but I have to carry all my equipment... decisions... decisions!

My chosen charity Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer. They provide practical, medical, emotional and financial support and push for better cancer care.

On a personal level this is a charity now very close to my own heart. My mother got diagnosed with Breast Cancer a few years ago and at the time managed to fend it off, however whilst I was serving in Afghanistan last year it returned and spread. A family decision was made not to tell me until I returned from Afghan and the support the family received from Macmillan was absolutely fantastic.

I am sure that many people may not realise the effort, support and care that these nurses and volunteers put in until it actually affects them personally. I owe a great deal to Macmillan, and in particular to Emma, my mother's Macmillan nurse. Emma looks after my Mum and is always there for her, whether a chat is needed, explanations on treatment or just a shoulder. These nurses and the entire Macmillan Cancer Support team really are worth their weight in gold and this is my way of saying a big thank you to all of them.

One in three of us will get cancer. Two million of us are living with it. We are all affected by cancer and we can all help so please dig deep and donate now, all donations will be very gratefully received and as I am funding it all myself every single penny raised will go to this amazing charity.

As well as donating on here you can also donate quickly and simply via text by sending a message to 70070, including my JustTextGiving code BAKE88 and the amount you want to give (£1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10). All text donations are free and won't come out of any inclusive texts you have as part of your price plan - you simply pay the cost of your donation. Full details can be found here

And now for the boring details bit... donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Kind regards
