First things first, a big big thank-you for taking the time to visit my fundarising page.

Here is what this all about:

I and 10 other DUCK (Durham University Charrity Committee) members are raising money in aid of CARE international and heading to Jordan this July to get help with a development project in Rajef, a disadvantaged rural community in the south of the Kingdom. The development project we are establishing has two sides to it: community development and practical development. On the practical side we will be helping CARE to establish water recycling units in the area. Rajef is in the middle of an arid desert and so water scarcity is a huge problem. These water units will help to maximize efficiency of water use and will hopefully prove invaluable to the residents

On the community side we’re going to be involved directly, through teaching English and IT skills to the local people, and running a summer course for people with learning disabilities. We are particularly aiming towards helping people develop those skills that can be used to earn a living. (As well as this we will also be doing some teaching in the very poor community of Safawi in the North East of the Kingdom, about 30 miles from the Iraqi border...) By using this two-sided approach, we feel we will be able to make a lasting change to the community.

The funding of this project will come entirely from me and the other DUCK volunteers and between us we need to raise at least £20,000 over the coming months. Specifically, all of the £900 sponsorship I’m hoping to raise will go directly to CARE international to fund the establishment of the water recycling units.
