When you think of people who run marathons, all that training and sweating, I am pretty sure that I would not be the first person that you would put into that category. However, knowing friends who have completed it (who are also not exactly elite athletes) I am sure that I can and I will complete it!
D-day is fast approaching and training has really picked up in 2009 - even giving up drinking! It's going ok so far, with only the odd sickness incident & minor injury.
So, what has prompted me run these 26.2 miles?! I want to raise money for Ovacome, the ovarian cancer support charity. This was a fairly obvious choice for me - many of you know that my mum having beat breast cancer, went on to have ovarian cancer . She is now back to being fit & healthy again, but I'd like to raise money to help others in a similar situtation.
Who are Ovacome?
Ovacome is a UK-wide support network which provides information & support for everyone affected by ovarian cancer. They provide clear-reliabile information, support and advice to all women who are affected by the cancer, and help their friends, family and relatives as well. They are not as well known as some of the other cancer charities, and so I feel that I a worthy cause for my efforts.
I have a sponsorship target of £2,000 - so with your help I can hopefully reach this. Remember! If you tick the 'gift aid' box too, the Revenue have to pay up an extra 25% too....
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Ovacome gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure that 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Many thanks & hope to see many of you on my way around those 26.2 miles
Keep the date in your diary.....Sunday 26th April 2009.
