FREDERICKS FOUNDATION NAMIBIA DESERT CHALLENGE

100KM TREK FOR WOMEN 18th - 25th SEPTEMBER 2009

I am going to be trekking 100km  across the desert in the remote part of Damaraland in the north west of Namibia. I will be trekking 20-25 km a day in soaring temperatures and rough terrain with my friend Jo Allchurch and thirty other women. Each day will be extremely challenging both physically and mentally aswell as the real chance of coming face to face with African wildlife such as  lions or rhino!

You are probably wondering why on earth I would want to do this. Many of you know me well and some less so. I was compelled to take part in this exciting adventure not only as a personal challenge but because I fellt the charity was so important to help.The charity I have chosen to raise money for is the  Fredericks Foundation, a small charity whose main aim is to help people out of poverty through employment. I felt this  was a particularly relevant  in this current economic climate. The Fredericks Foundation provides resources in the form of financial loans and business mentoring to help less able individuals such as the disabled, single parents, ex convicts or someone who is down on there luck become economically independent and enable them to set up their own business.  The Fredericks Foundation enables people to be given a second chance, to make something of there lives and to contribute to the economy and the world we live in.

I am very excited about this challenge but a little nervous about the amount of training ahead but determined to complete the challenge!
