Story

Hi everyone and thanks for visiting my sponsorship page.

So university life has come to an end and it is time to take on my next challenge by doing something different and worthwhile before permanently entering into the unforgiving world of paid work.

I leave in January 2009 to spend a year in the Central American country of Honduras, where I will be living with a host family and working for a women's rights charity (see http://www.cemh.org.hn/ if your Spanish is up to it).

The work will involve tasks such as:
* Raising awareness of women's rights.
* Investigating into the current conditions and situations of Honduran women.
* Providing workshops to educate in matters such as women's rights, violence against women, health issues and political participation etc.

My Spanish is VERY basic and they will speak virtually no English, so it's going to be challenging, but I'm determined to help in any way that I can to make a difference and make the most out of my time away.

However to make this possible I need to raise funds and therefore I ask if you would please consider supporting me in this cause by making a donation. Anything you can offer will be gratefully received.

This is more than just giving money, you would be in effect ‘donating a Katharine’ (not too shabby as gifts go, although no doubt some people of Honduras would prefer an Xbox 360!!). In addition, the money will enable young people overseas to volunteer in the U.K, so British charities and citizens will also benefit.

Any extra money that may be raised will be donated to the organisation I work with.

I will also be organising various fundraising activities and events from now until December this year. If you would like to get involved or want details please email me at katharinemullen@aol.com.

I am unlikely to get the chance to do anything like this again and so please please help support me.

Thank you so much in advance.

Kat
