One day a man was walking along the beach, awestruck by the tens of thousands of starfish washed ashore.  Soon they would all die if they weren't returned to the sea.  He watched in wonderment as a small boy, one by one, picked up the starfish and walked them to the shoreline and threw them back to the sea.  "What are you doing?" he asked "I'm putting them back in the sea so they don't die." said the boy.  "Well you are wasting you your time, I'd give up if I were you, look how many there are, you can't possibly make a difference here."  As the small boy threw the next starfish into the sea he replied "Well I made a difference to that one!"
