On 6 June 2009 Kat and Jo will be joining in on a (fancy-dressed!?!!) sponsored walk from Ely to Waterbeach (14 miles) to raise money for the endangered Orangutans!
If you are able to sponsor us any amount that you can afford, it would be really appreciated!
Orangutans have lost 80% of their habitat in the last twenty years. According to the World Bank, at the current rate of deforestation, there may be no lowland forest left outside of protected areas in Kalimantan by 2010. Continued loss of habitat could result in the extinction of the orangutan. The pet trade and poaching is also having a devastating effect on the population of Orangutans and a contribution from you would support:
-Protection of critical orangutan habitats including Tanjung Puting National Park
-Scientific research
-Education and awareness raising
-Capacity building and development of local partners
-Sustainable livelihood projects
-Orangutan rehabilitation and release

..and also can you imagine us two walking 14 miles?!! lol
