Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
I am running the Castles Marathon in Northumbria on 26th October (starting at Alnwick Castle and heading north!) which as a first-time marathon runner will be a huge challenge for me! The key reason behind this is to support one of ActionAid's Priority Projects based in Sierra Leone working to improve primary education for children.
Sierra Leone's ten-year civil war destroyed thousands of schools, leaving children to study in dilapidated and dangerous buildings - many with unsafe drinking water. Young girls are being brought up in a society where the value of their education is questioned and violence is commonplace. War widows have been left to fund their children's education alone following the death of thousands of soldiers.
This project will work in four schools in Bo district, Sierra Leone. It will transform the lives of 1,000 pupils from the building of a new fully equipped library, two wells providing clean drinking water and the supply of new teaching materials. The project will also facilitate teacher training, school management committees and the setting up of mothers’ clubs, as well as raise awareness of girls’ education and violence against girls.
I believe education is a crucial component to the development of a country. Without the right to education for all, there is no scope for personal development toward an equal world. Education has defined my life until now and will continue to; the reason being why I chose this project and why it is very important to me.
I will be extremely grateful for any contribution towards this fantastic cause!
Thank you!
