I'm cycling from St Austell to Bristol on the first weekend of July in aid of Children's Hospice South West - 240 miles over three days. There was a poster at work and next thing I knew I'd signed up. They say things like 'It's a ride not a race' and everyone welcome regardless of experience, and they've provided a very helpful schedule for cycling practice, but by the time I got to it it was already the end of week 6 out of 13 weeks, so I'm a little apprehensive.
I am however putting the miles in and both legs and lungs seem to be getting stronger. I have to say the main reason for doing this is that I fancied it, so please don't feel obliged to sponsor what is basically a weekend jaunt along lovely Sustrans-route country lanes with up to a 100 other south westerners.
On the other hand ... I'm supposed to raise at least £500. And children's hospices get a pitiful amount of government funding (seems like the Big Society was already here). So if you can spare a few pounds for the cause it will certainly add speed to my sails.
There's lots about the ride at http://www.rideforpreciouslives.org.uk/.
