Story

Our beautiful Katy passed away peacefully in the arms of her family on 18th November 2011. She was always susceptible to chest infections and often had to go to hospital. On Tuesday after a busy day at college, where she had just started, she went to the respite centre Viking House where she was met by staff who knew her well. They noticed that she needed help and took her on the short trip to the John Radcliffe Hospital. By Wednesday she was worse, and fell asleep to fight the infection. She didn't wake up, and died very peacefully on Friday.

We love her, are proud of her, and are grateful for the sixteen lovely years we spent with her.

From the age of two until the week before she died, Katy went to Springfield School. She learnt and grew into the delightful young lady she was with their help. The inspiring classmates and outstanding staff enriched her life. She went swimming regularly in the hydrotherapy pool. She went trampolining and canoeing. She went into town, appeared in plays, enjoyed sensory sessions, had fun in music therapy with Soundabout, and she even went on residentials!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - raising more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

We would like to plant a tree in Springfield's gardens, so the children can gaze at the light through the branches like Katy loved to do. With any extra they can buy sensory equipment like lights or luminous objects, and fund sensory sessions with Soundabout music therapy, or even take kids trampolining.

Thanks to the money already raised, we know the school is going ahead with all of the above, thank you so much! In addition a sun canopy will be fitted to provide shade and shelter for those like Katy who love to stay out in the gardens at school no matter what the weather.
