Story
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. Readers of the Citizen newspaper will know of Kayla the little girl who has the skin condition Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB). In EB the proteins that bind the layers of skin together don't work properly, a bit like velcro with the hooks missing! Kayla explains the condition and its effects on her in terms of a butterfly's wing. "When you touch the wing of a butterfly bits fall off, it is the same with me". Kayla's dream is of a cure for EB and her "new skin". DebRA is the UK charity which supports those with the condition and their families and is funding the research for a cure.
I will be 40 years older than Kayla (who is 6 for those who insist on doing the sums) the Monday before the Half Marathon, I will do my bit to support Kayla's fundraising for DebRA by running the Half Marathon (13 miles) with a six foot pair of Butterfly Wings. Please dig deep and sponsor me online to support DebRA, Kayla and the other "butterfly children".
If you have birthday in 2005 why not celebrate by supporting Kayla's appeal by sponsoring me based on the number of years you haven't had EB, at 46p a mile that would take us six pounds closer to Kayla's new skin for example, or you might like to donate a pound a year or whatever you can afford.
Of course if you live near Milton Keynes please come and cheer me on from the start at Bury Lawn School, Stantonbury at 10.00 a.m. on July 24th. More details can be found on www.mkhalfmarathon.org.uk. I don't think you'll miss the wings!
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: DebRA will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. So please sponsor me now! Many thanks for your support.
