Kili trip 2008 · 22 June 2008

The Mango Tree works in East Africa, delivering a range of education and development projects which tackle the causes of poverty and help to address social and gender inequality. In April 2025, The Mango Tree partnered with Kids Club Kampala to increase our collective impact.

Story

It's 6km tall; rife with Malaria, yellow fever & hepatitis. It spans it's own deserts, rainforests and glaciers; is conquered by only 40% of those that dare try it. No- I'm not after Graham Wood's mum. I'm climbing the tallest free-standing mountain in the world.

We've heard the stats before- we know the region is poor and plagued by sadness we prefer to pretend doesn't exist. HIV has ripped through the adult population, leaving half the demographic of Tz between the age of 0-14. Many of these children are orphans, and many are born with the disease that killed their parents.
The Mango Tree Programme supports over 10,000 of these children through education, welfare and healthcare. It provides opportunities they would otherwise never experience.
