I am running my very first half marathon on the 4th May. I have been training on my own for the past 11 months and I run slightly faster than I can walk! My aim is to complete the course without walking, preferably before they reopen the roads! I am raising money to help Frenchay hospital buy the necessary life saving equipment needed to treat children with brain tumours. Many of you will know that I was diagnosed with a very rare brain tumour, only 12 other cases in the UK to date. No-one would ever tell me what happened to the other 12 people but my prognosis was not good. By the time I had my 10 hour operation I had lost my sight and was told it was unlikely to return. The risks of operating meant that the likelihood of brain damage and paralysis was high. Living a normal working life and having children were almost certainly out of the question. Luckily, the very steady hand of my fantastic surgeon, Professor Hugh Coakham, led me to defy all the odds and come out relatively unscathed! It hasn’t been plain sailing and the tumour may well return but I count myself extremely lucky. I am now living the life they said would never be possible and I am running in this event to help others get the same chance. Please sponsor me, the more money we can raise, the more lives we can save. Keagh x
