OCHRE works to raise awareness of oesophageal cancer, a hard to treat, less survivable cancer. We fund research to support better outcomes. We work with health services and policy makers to improve understanding of the dangers of heartburn and the need for earlier diagnosis which can save lives.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As you may already be aware, my Dad (Andy) died earlier this year following a fight with Oesophageal Cancer. His symptoms began in November last year and he was diagnosed in December. He died on 3rd February.

Oesophageal Cancer is often only detected when at a very advanced stage, by which time there are very few options for patients.

Due to the nature of this type of cancer it is crucial to generate awareness and funding for the required equipment to help early diagnosis and research into how this cancer originates and develops to help prevent other victims and their families from suffering.

My good friend Graham, some may know him better as Horse, and I are cycling over 340 miles from London to Paris over four days at the end of July. We hope to raise as much money as possible for Ochre: a charity directed specifically towards raising funds for and awareness of Oesophageal Cancer. As an aside, the great Sean Connery is patron of Ochre.

Graham and I are training regularly with cycles from London to Brighton and Dover and we both cycle to and from work every day so we should be in tip-top shape ahead of our intrepid journey!

We would be extremely grateful for your donation, no matter how small, for this extremely important and worthwhile charity. Every penny raised will go towards helping the sufferers of this fast developing cancer.

Sincerest thanks,

Andy Kean
