Hi everyone

As most of you know I have an nine year old daughter who has autism. Mia, our daughter, was first diagnosed when she was 18 months old – we were lucky to get such an early diagnosis and we were able to get her the support she needed. However, through my work with autism charities like Irish Autism Action, Special Provision for the Education of Autistic Children (SPEAC) and the National Autistic Society (NAS) I have been shocked at the number of people who have autism who have to struggle to get the help and support they really need.

Three and a half years after she was first diagnosed Mia came into the room and sang ‘Tomorrow’ from Annie to myself and my wife. It was the first time we had ever heard her voice and I will never forget that day as long as I shall live. She continues to bring us joy each and every day but I still worry about what the future holds as there is a long way to go before all people with autism will be able to live to their true potential in society and not face prejudice and a lack of services and support.

That’s why I am running the Flora London Marathon to raise money and awareness for The National Autistic Society and SPEAC. The work these two charities do is fantastic and I hope that you will dig deep and sponsor me. It will be a struggle but nothing compared to the daily struggles faced by the individuals and families that these two charities support every single day. I want to make the kind of difference to these people that the help and support we received did for our family. I would be honoured if you would help me.

For more information about the National Autistic Society plese visit www.autism.org.uk
For more information about SPEAC please visit www.speac-centre.org

Thank you

Keith

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. I am donating 20% of all sponsorship raised to SPEAC and the rest will go to the National Autistic Society.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: National Autistic Society and SPEAC will get your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now!

My son has Asperger's. He may be an adult, but we still need all the help we can get. Thank-you. Donation by Lady Macbeth on 17/04/09
