The Ayrshire Hospice - Kilimanjaro Trek 2010 · 19 March 2010 ·

We provide expert care and support for people across Ayrshire living with life-shortening illness, and those closest to them. Our aim is to help people live well, with comfort, dignity and choice. Every person and moment matters - and with our community’s support, we’re here when it matters most.

Story

Thank you for visiting my JustGiving fund-raising page for the Ayrshire Hospice.

I have worked in the Ayrshire Hospice for eight years and felt that that I would like to join the many individuals and groups who have assisted with fund-raising for this charity. The hospice receives less than half of its running costs from the local Health Board and therefore depends upon on charitable donations to continue with its work. At present this means that the hospice needs to raise approximately £7500 every day.

The hospice provides specialist palliative care and support to patients with cancer and other life limiting illness and their families throughout Ayrshire. The hospice has specialist nurses and doctors in the Ayr Hospital, Crosshouse Hospital, the Day Hospice and in the community visiting and supporting patients and their families in their own homes. The 20 bed Ayrshire Hospice inpatient unit, on Racecourse Road, is staffed by a dedicated multi professional team caring for patients who require  24 hour specialist care.

On the 19th March 2010, I am taking part in the hospice Mount Kilimanjaro trek. After our overnight flight to Tanzania, we will start our  trek with 5 nights camping on the mountain via the Machame Route This leads us up through humid rainforests to the high moorlands and alpine plateaux. Hopefully giving us time to acclimatise and avoid anything more than mild altitude sickness. Our penultimate day on the mountain starts with an 6 hour trek by torchlight at midnight, through the snow, to reach the Urhuru Peak as dawn breaks. We will then be at the highest point on the African Continent at 5895m (19,340 feet)(nearly 4 miles high !!!).

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they will never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they will send your money electronically directly to the hospice fund-raising department and if you are a  UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in Gift Aid will be added at no extra cost to you. So it’s the most efficient way to donate.

So please dig deep and donate now. 100% of donations go directly to the Ayrshire Hospice.

I've increased my target to £7500.00 as this is the sum the hospice has to raise each day to continue with its work.

Any donation, no matter how small, is very much appreciated.

Thank you for your support.
