Journey Update Day 1 over - after our warm up and some miscalculation by Grant, we have now covered 122 miles!!! First leg was from Appoigner to Les Muids. Grant, despite saying he was a vegetarian managed to eat a fly and half a wasp today... ha ha! Heading off into the heart of the Loire Valley today - everything aches!! Day 2 over - just a brisk 90 miles today taking in some fantastic chateaus. Grant's backside suffering and i want to lie down and die! Both of us nursing bad insect stings! Day 3 - short blast today over 80 miles through Azay, St Gaultier and Celon. Legs very tired but loving every minute. The hills start tomorrow... should be fun!!! Today is day 6 ... a rest day! Day 4 was a tough slog through the rain with a strained knee and rain ... made it though with plenty of ibuprofen tablets! We stayed in Eyemoutiers with a reclusive sculptor! Day 5 took us over 6 hours.... hailstones included through the Dordogne gorges to Ally.... we are staying in a 15th century castle feels like one of those castles you visit! Knees still suffering! Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. Last year I raised almost £10,000 in aid of Fairbridge and Derian House Children’s Hospice by cycling across the Alps – a total of 1108km over 11 days. This year I will be cycling the length of the Loire Valley, 800 miles in 8 days, in order to raise money to rebuild a school in Kenya. I am funding all of the costs and expenses of the trip personally so all money raised will go direct to the charity without any deductions. The Amboseli School is a poorly built wooden structure which will not last much longer and we need to raise the funds to replace this over the next two years with 6 new permanent classrooms. The kitchen is a little tumble-down wooden hut where they feed 220 children their lunch every day. It may be just enough to keep the goats and other animals at bay, but certainly not the dust and the flies! This is one of the high priority projects and by November 2008, we hope to have replaced it with a new kitchen, dining room and food store. The School is being funded by The Born Free Foundation and was recently provided with 28 new desks which seat 3 to 4 children.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me as the charity willl receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Please help me to help others by sponsoring my cycle trek. Your support is greatly appreciated – thank you.
