Our story (April 2010)
Jarvis is now 12 years old and has just completed a 6 month course of treatment after being diagnosed with cavitating pulmonary tuberculosis in October 2009. He contracted the disease even although he had a BCG vaccination as a baby.
As a family affected by Tuberculosis we would like to raise awareness of the rise in TB cases in the UK and indeed worldwide. Raising awareness is critical in the fight to stop TB.

Around 2 billion people (about one third of the world's population) are infected with TB - and therefore at risk of developing active TB (TB disease) at some time in their life.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that across the world, almost 9 million people develop TB disease every year.
TB causes around 2 million deaths every year.

2. Stephen is running in the Mens 10k in Glasgow on Sunday 20th June 2010. (Completed)
3. Stephen, Dave Giddings will be ascending Ben Nevis 21st August 2010. (Completed I'm glad to say)
The family are all taking part in the Great Scottish Run in September 2010 in Glasgow.
4. Jarvis and Harvey are running in the Junior 3k on Saturday 4th Septemebr 2010. (Completed)
5. Stephen and Linda will be running in the 10k on Sunday 5th September 2010.(Completed)
6. Jarvis and Harvey will be running the great Scottish Junior Run on Saturday 3rd September 2011. (Completed)
The charity TB Alert
We are hoping to raise awareness and funds for the charity TB Alert. Their current campaign "The truth about TB" aims to radically boost awareness of TB among people most at risk, and those who work with them, or know them well. It will bring together local NHS organisations and local authorities, as well as voluntary sector agencies and affected communities, to deliver innovative TB awareness campaigns.
The Truth About TB
Tuberculosis (TB) is a serious, but preventable, infectious disease. It's a pressing public health concern of the twenty first century, not just the history books. TB has been increasing since the 1980s in England and there are nearly 8,000 new cases each year. The disease is mainly seen in major cities, but all local areas will have cases - and should be prepared for them.
There are approximately 350 deaths from TB in England each year.
TB: Think. Suspect. Refer.
Think outside the type - Avoid late diagnosis.
Symptoms of TB include:
- A cough for 3 weeks.
- No appetite.
- Night sweats.
- Fever.
- Weight loss.
- Tiredness.
