Story

I DID IT!

The first 19 miles felt comfortable and I was on target for my dream finish of sub 4:30.  Then I had a few stomach cramps which I put down to too much lucozade!  I struggled on and although I knew I was slowing down, I was determined to reach the end in under 5 hours.  Seeing the Houses of Parliament I knew I was almost there and I've never felt so happy to see Buck House.  Somehow I managed to smile and raise my arms in the air as I crossed the finish line in a time of 4:47:33 and 22,457th position!  Amongst the women I was 5,510th and in my age group (18 - 39) I  was 3,467th.

It is now official, I am totally mad, which is why I'm asking you to sponsor me to run, not only 26 miles and 385 yards on 26th April 2009, but also the hundreds of training miles I will be doing.

I started running in April 2007 and to date have run in two 5 mile, six 10 km and 1 half marathon events.

Every year I watch the London Marathon and think to myself that if all those people can do it why shouldn't I be able to, after all, I'm fit and healthy.  So I've decided to put it to the test.

I will be running to raise money for the MS Society.  I have chosen this charity because my uncle has MS.  My fundraising target is £100 per marathon mile.

MS can be progressive or can have periods of remission and relapse.  In MS the body's immune system attacks the myelin coating of the nerves preventing signals from the brain reaching their intended destination.  The effect of this can include pain, fatigue, loss of mobility or vision, depression and spasticity.  MS can not be caught, and at the moment there is no cure.

The MS Society is dedicated to support all those whose lives are affected by MS.  They invest in research for more effective treatments and ultimately a cure.  They also provide a respite care, grants for home adaptations and mobility aids, education, training, specialist nurses and a freephone helpline.

So please SPONSOR ME NOW by clicking the button at the top or the bottom of this page. It is quick, easy and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: MS Society gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, 28% will be added to your donation.

So what are you waiting for?   It won't hurt you as much as its gonna hurt me!

Thankyou.

January 5th 2009 was the start of my 16 week training schedule.  So far I have done:

Week 1:  2 + 3 + 1 + 2 + 6 = 14 miles
Week 2:  5 + 4 + 4 + 3 + 7 = 23 miles
Week 3:  3 + 4 + 2.5 + 3 + 8 = 20.5 miles
Week 4:  3.88 + 5 + 4 +3 + 8.18 = 24.06 miles
Week 5:  5 + 4 + 3 + 10 = 22 miles
Week 6:  4.2 + 5 + 5 + 3 + 12 = 29.2 miles
Week 7:  3.6 + 6 + 5.99 + 3 + 14 = 32.59 miles
Week 8:  4.6 + 4 +13.11 = 21.71 miles
Week 9:  4 + 5.61 + 2.99 + 8.74 = 21.34 miles
Week 10:  3.3 + 5 + 4.96 + 3 + 16 = 32.26 miles

Week 11:  7 + 5 + 9.88 + 3 + 18 = 42.88 miles
Week 12:  5 + 5 + 5 + 3 + 18 = 36 miles
Week 13:  6 + 6 + 3 + 19.88 = 34.88 miles
Week 14:  3 + 9 + 3 +11.43 = 26.43 miles
Week 15:  4 + 2.96 + 9.5 = 16.46 miles
Week 16:  2.64 miles

Total training mileage to date = 399.95 miles
