AngelmanUK is a United Kingdom based support group for those affected by the rare genetic condition Angelman Syndome (AS). A diagnosis of AS will have life changing consequences and we are there to help families cope. We also advise medical and care professionals dealing with this rare condition.

Story

I have decided (along with a group of friends) to run the Bournemouth Bay Run (10KM) on April 5th 2009 to raise money for ASSERT.

This charity is close to our hearts as my boyfriends 4 year old nephew, Donny (the cute little man you see in the picture) was diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome at the age of 2.

Angelman Syndrome is a very rarely recognised condition but in basic terms Donny has a gene missing that causes severe learning difficulties, sleep disturbance, poor balance, seizures and results in him not being able to speak and needing 24 hour care throughout his life.

Even with all this, Donny continues to be a ray of sunshine in all our lives and never fails to laugh and smile and every opportunity.

Please help me raise money for ASSERT (Charity Registration No 1021882) who provide support to families and research into the possible cure for Angelman Syndrome.

I appreciate time are tough but every penny donated will help with research and provide support to families such as ours that are affected.
