The Objects of CIVA are “to advance any purpose which is recognised as being exclusively charitable under the laws of every part of the United Kingdom”. CIVA specialises in taking good ideas and turning them into successful and sustainable programmes. The main thrust of our work at the present time is in the following areas: • The promotion of social entrepreneurship and support of social entrepreneurs. • Encouraging the participation of young people in issues that affect them as young people and in wider society. • Enabling poor communities to address issues and problems in their lives. • Addressing the needs of families and their health and wellbeing, especially young families and early years children, • Addressing the issues of environmental sustainability and climate change. • The advancement of mathematics. • Experimenting with and investigating new forms of sustainable finance in support of these objectives.

Story

Hi everyone!

This year, I am riding a 12 hour solo mountain bike race on July 25th for FoodWorks.  My goal is to raise £1000!!  Please give generously to this great cause!

What does FoodWorks do?
We are a youth-led charity that brings together young volunteers, surplus food and a free kitchen space to create nutritious meals for people affected by food poverty in the community.  We have several projects operating in London, each week cooking a 3 course vegetarian meal for people in the community.

Where will your money go?
Your money will be used to purchase food for our projects, as while we do get a majority of our food reclaimed, sometimes we need to buy milk, butter, flour, honey, etc... because people cannot live on just carrots and bread alone!

By donating:
£10- You will help nourish 20 people affected by food poverty.
£20- You will help nourish 40 people affected by food poverty.
If you want to donate more, you can do the math!

What are you doing to raise money?
I am riding the Bontrager 24/12 on July 25th, which is a circuit race in Cornwall.  Each circuit is 14 km, and I plan to ride 12 laps, so about one lap per hour.  I will rest for about 5 minutes each hour, eating some food, and if need a change of clothes.  The rest of the time, I will be on my bike dogging it over rocks, roots, steep climbs and one deep river.

Your charity of choice is CIVA not FoodWorks...
FoodWorks is a project of the Centre for Innovation for Voluntary Action, so all our funds are administered through them.
