Story
You’ve hear the saying “be careful what you wish for”
– well never has this been more true than when I opened the birthday present which my kids thoughtfully clubbed together for this year.
My recent brush with “the big C” made me really take stock of life and got me thinking about things that I had always wanted to do. But when I flippantly, and possibly foolishly, mentioned to my family that I had always fancied doing a skydive, never in a million years did I think that particular “dream” would come true.
So there I was, opening a plain looking envelope on my birthday, when I got the shock of my life as I discovered that my family had paid for me to jump out of a plane from 13,000 thousand feet! As the gifts my family gave me in previous years were flying lessons (see pictures) they obviously thought I might like to try to land without the plane this time. After a very long speechless moment (very unusual for me), I began to protest and tell everyone that I was only joking really, that I’m not sure I actually have the guts to do it. Too late though - the deed was done and everyone was insistent that I would love it and that it would be a great life experience.
I still have doubt in my mind even now and can’t imagine how petrified I am going to be on the day, but not wanting to let everyone down I have bitten the bullet and told myself that I must go through with it.
So it’s going to happen and I will probably scream like a girl, but now I’m resigned to the fact that I am going to jump from a plane I thought it was a shame to waste the opportunity to raise some money at the same time for a good cause, and, for obvious reasons, a charity close to my heart – Cancer Research.
The tandem skydive is due to take place at Old Sarum Airfield, near Salisbury (Home of the Red Devils) on the 27th June 2010 weather permitting. The airfield is open to the public so those of you who need a good laugh are welcome.
The aim is to raise £500.00 for Cancer Research so all donations large or small are welcome to assist this good cause.
Thanks.
