Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As some of you may know last year I ran (if that is the appropriate word!) the London Marathon. The fundraising went very well, the race didn't. I was very ill 24 hours before the race and only managed to run 11 miles and ended up walking the remaining 15 miles, but I did finish although I was disappointed.
I have now decided to take on another Marathon. A friend of mine is using her Gap Year to work for Youth for Christ working specifically for the Crux Theatre. I have detailed below how they do it and what they do.
Rachel needs to raise her salary for the year, so not only is she taking on a very daunting task but she has to raise her own salary herself. This totals about £1500. She has been raising money during the Summer Holidays by doing jobs for people etc.
With only 7 weeks to train I volunteered to "run" the Kent Coastal Marathon on 06/09/2009 to help raise funds for Rachel. My training hasn't gone well as I had a week of illness (not the dreaded swine flu as I first thought) but I will be at the start line on the 6th September and hopefully the finish line as well. I hope that many of you can come along to cheer me on. It starts at Palm Bay Oval at 9.30am, I run into Ramsgate, then back to Palm Bay going on to Westgate and Birchington before turning around and going back to the finish line in Palm Bay.
I admire Rachel hugely for what she is doing and my efforts are minute in comparison to the arduous year that she will be taking on but we will hopefully both enjoy our efforts.
Well that's it in a nutshell really. It isn't your usual sort of life saving charity but is just as important to me. I would be grateful if you could sponsor me in order to help Rachel.
WHAT THEY DO
Rachel Retallick is going to be a Gap Year volunteer for Youth for Christ working specifically for the Crux Theatre - Through performances and theatre workshops they aim to inspire and empower young people to achieve more, increase their self-confidence and self-belief and take responsibility for their actions.
HOW THEY DO IT
They perform a hard hitting 45 minute piece of theatre ‘End of My World (Remixed)’ which tackles a variety of topics relevant to the Key Stage 3 and 4 Curriculum, such as family lifestyle and values, anti social behaviour and an exploration of stereotypes and prejudice. They can tailor a program of workshops specific to your young people’s needs, covering the curriculum requirements for Drama, PSHE, English and R.E.
