Story

You are probably here because either a) I (or someone acting on my behalf) have harangued you into visiting or b) you have stumbled upon this site by accident! Either way, my request is simple – take 1 minute to allow me to tell you who I am and why you should sponsor me.

My name is Kerry and I am a 37 year old British Male who served as an Officer in the British Army until August 1999; earlier that year I saw my Doctor with what was believed to be an eye infection but was later diagnosed as an inflammatory condition of the retina. This required an extended course of high dose Steroids, which had some very unpleasant side-effects including significant weight gain. As a consequence of a variety of factors, I was soon able to tick all the boxes on the list of CHD (Coronary Heart Disease) risk factors and in November 2004 suffered a Stroke.  Since then my sight has deteriorated to a point where I have been Registered Legally Blind since August 2005.

Despite this, I am one of the lucky ones and rather than sit and feel sorry for myself (did that for 2 years, didn’t achieve much!!), I am putting my energies into raising funds for the Royal National Institute for the Blind. I am now in training for the Great North Run (13.1 miles – a half marathon) which is progressing well.  Whilst I’ve had a few setbacks to date, I feel very confident that I will finish the course and raise money for this important charity.  Please dig deep and support me – the funds raised will be put to very, very good use.  And now for some inspirational words. . . . . . .

"Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising every time we fall."
Confucius

I have never really considered the glass half empty, nor have I thought of it as half full, I am more of a “Who’s glass is this and where is my cheeseburger” type of guy!

Kerry

THANKS FOR READING

And a HUGE Thanks in advance to my wife, Sharon, who will be my guide on the day!

Of course, if you want to see how my training is progressing you can see the detail all of my training runs here:
