The Taylor West Tribute Fund

Kevin's story
Taylor was born on 23rd May 2011. All seemed well up until three months later when Taylor started having difficulty feeding. He started losing weight and after a bit of a battle with the GP he got him fast tracked to see a Paediatrician.
Almost immediately a muscle disease was suspected. Taylor was admitted to Queen Mary's for tests. We spent two weeks there, but his aspirated feed caused him to get pneumonia. He was then rushed to St.Georges Hospital intensive care unit where we spent a further two weeks waiting whilst they carried out all types of tests. We finally got a diagnosis of Taylor having Type 1 SMA. This is when our world fell apart as we were told there was no cure. After another bout of pneumonia, Taylor was given a few days to a week to live.
It was then that we were moved to Christopher's - The Shooting Stars CHASE Hospice. On arrival, the palliative care team were surprised that Taylor was still with us after reading the reports from St.Georges. We lived in the hospice with Taylor for a further four months as he put up a brilliant fight. The staff couldn't have done any more for us and of course for Taylor, nothing was too much trouble for them and we were provided with a flat at the hospice during Taylor's time there.
Tragically Taylor slipped away in his sleep on 9th February 2012.
The Hospice needs £10,000,000 a year to operate - the government provide £400,000 (the figures may be slightly out but basically a huge difference in what's given and what is needed). Taylor's stay cost £1000 a day, which when you think is a huge part of the budget given by the government, given the length of time he was there. The rest of the money is raised via donations and other fund raising events.
It is mine and my Sister's mission to raise as much money as possible for the Hospice to try and pay back the money that was needed for Taylor's care.
Thank you for your support
