Story

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.

Our names are Kevin Barron and Darren Rider.  This page is about our endeavour to raise £7,000 for two important charities - the Mines Advisory Group (MAG) and Cancer Research UK.  MAG is the organiser of this event and will be providing us with all the medical back-up and accomodation through Death Valley, so we aim to raise £3,000 each for MAG in order to partake in the event, and an additional £1,000 (or more if possible) for Cancer Research UK.

We are raising money in order to partake in the mad challenge, which is Death Valley, in 2009!  We will cycle over 260 miles through the desert, into Death Valley and back out toLas Vegas. To make this challenge even easier, daytime temperatures can reach 100 degrees and there are daily road climbs of over 5,200 feet. The doctors says we’ll be fine, although a psychiatrist isn’t available for comment.

The cycle challenge starts in Beatty Junction, Nevada, about 100 miles north ofLas Vegas. Over the following five days, we will cycle over 260 miles through the desert before riding into Death Valley, where the dramatic rock formations and arid landscapes make it one of America’s greatest national parks.

The final leg will consist of a 60 mile cycle through the barren Nevada desert and intoLas Vegas, before finishing off with a victorious cycle ride down the famous Strip.

If you want to donate to MAG then please follow this link to the MAG website, http://www.magclearsmines.org/page.php?s=1&p=2102. MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is one of the world's leading humanitarian organisations providing conflict-affected countries with a real chance for a better future. They clear the remnants of conflict from some of the world's poorest nations, we educate and employ local people and help provide solutions for those trapped by poverty and economic devastation through no fault of their own.

The donations on this page will go direct to the Cancer Research UK. Cancer Research UK is the world's leading independent organisation dedicated to cancer research. They support research into all aspects of cancer through the work of more than 3,000 scientists, doctors and nurses.

We are willing to do the hard physical labour, and are already training hard for the event, but we would sincerely appreciate any donations that you can give.

Thank you for your support. Please dig deep and sponsor us. Every penny counts
