Tea Leaf Trust

Sri Lanka tea pickers live in poverty without many basic facilities (electricity, heating or running water). Education can increase work options and reduce poverty. The Tea Leaf Trust wants to raise funds for a community school that will provide free education for tea pickers and their families to help reduce poverty.

My story

I am competing in a number events this year, and would be grateful if you were able to offer any kind of donation or sponsorship, which will go to supporting two great charity initiatives. The Events Sunday April 26: SPW Hyde Park triathlon Monday May 25: BUPA London 10,000 Sunday 31 May: Chilterns Gran Fondo Cyclosportive. Saturday 6 June: Blenheim Triathlon. Saturday 1 August: London Triathlon (co-racing with Mark Pollock) Sunday 20 September: Berlin Marathon My nominated charities for 2009 are both terrific projects based in Sri Lanka - I visited both of them earlier in the year and was very impressed with each: - The Tea Leaf Trust is a charitable foundation which supports disadvantaged tea workers in the island's central plantation area with education and amenities. More about it at www.tealeaftrust.com - The Sir Lanka Card Project mentors children from two orphanages in Colombo to make Christmas cards which are then sold throughout the world from www.srilankacards.com. The cards are great and this is another very worthwhile and growing initiative. If would like to sponsor me at 10p per kilometre, the total distance covered should come to 329.85km (not including training miles), ie about £33 quid. Times are hard, but please be as generous as you feel you can be. The total sum raised with be split equally between each poject Many thanks in advance for your time, support and donation, it will be greatly appreciated by me all those in Sri Lanka. Kevin Braddock
