Berlin Marathon · 15 January 2006

In the UK, a woman dies every two hours from ovarian cancer. As the leading ovarian cancer research charity, we’re working to change that. By finding new and better ways to prevent, treat and detect ovarian cancer, we will ensure a future where no woman dies of ovarian cancer.

Story

Hi!

I'm running the Berlin Marathon on the 24th September 2006.  I'm doing it to raise funds for Ovarian Cancer Action.  Everyone of us knows someone affected by this awful bloody disease - here's someone you all might know.  My favourite comedian.

Sure, there are others.  Too many.  So, I thought I'd do my bit.

If you want to see how much I am hurting, you can find my BLOG at

www.berlinforcharity.blogspot.com.  I update it every Sunday.

In the meantime, thanks for visiting my fundraising page. You know, it has never been easier to sponsor my insanity and now you can do it online.

I've done this Marathon before - 20 years ago - when the wall was still there, so the course this time should be a bit more varied! I was 19Kg lighter then and obsessive and compulsive about my running.  I completed it then in 3hours 20 minutes and hope to do this one in 4 hours (originally, 30 minutes more, but I was bouyed up by my Exeter performance in April - 2 hours for the half-marathon on a murderously hilly course).  Last time I trained hard for the marathon and breezed in having run way under my capabilities (I was over-cautious about a different sort of wall). This time, though I've trained just as hard, I'm thinking of booking a stretcher for the finish line.

I'm in training, 4 mornings a week, including a long run on a Saturday with 2 rest days and a swim on a Sunday.  It's been good to see the Spring and the lighter mornings after such a wet, dark, lonely winter.  I'm funding this trip myself and I've bought the flights and hotel room already so I'm totally commited.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Ovarian cancer action will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.  Or you can just give me the money and I'll register your name on the website, using my credit card (we can't reclaim the tax though).  Or you can give a cheque and I'll donate it direct to the Charity on your behalf.  And the charity can reclaim the tax themselves.

If you like targets, you might be interested in the time I've set myself and consider giving  a bonus if I come in under 4 hours. It's a stretching target for a bloke who hasn't run for 20 years!!  Many thanks for your support!  Please pass this to a few folk who know me/you/both of us.  You can also contact Ovarian Cancer Action via www.ovarian.org.uk  and at info@ovarian.org.uk

Or you can contact me cedere@btinternet.com

Thanks!!
