TREK KILIMANJARO
7TH-14TH JUNE 2009
IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO DONATE!!
At 7.05 am on Friday 12th June, I succesfully summitted Kilimanjaro after a gruelling climb through the night during which the team ascended 4,300feet to the glacier covered peak.
A big thank you to everybody who supported this expedition and who made such generous donations.
So far we have raised £2,400. It would be great to make it to £3,000.
"Great strides have been taken towards a cure for cancer over the last three decades but there is still a long way to go. Targeted drugs which have minimal side effects (so called "magic bullets") have recently been developed as a result of cancer research. They improve the response to chemotherapy but do not always provide a cure. Further, which patients respond and which do not is often a matter of guesswork. Some preliminary studies have helped to predict who would be more likely to benefit from one of these drugs. The KCT intends to build on this work by funding research to refine these tests with a view to making these drugs more cost effective and hence more readily available on the NHS. It will also support trials into treatments which will lead to a greater proportion of patients with cancer being cured and hence save lives." Dr. Mark Hill MD FRCP Consultant Medical Oncologist
(Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Kent Cancer Trust gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.)
