Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
In my 50th birthday year I wanted to mark the occasion by doing something special for a very worthy local charity. What better way to raise money than a sponsored walk...... straight up Mount Kilamanjaro which stands approximately 19,000ft in all its glory!
My epic journey starts mid December 2009 and lasts for two weeks. If I see Santa Claus on the way up I will borrow Rudolph for the rest of the journey and send Santa down on foot!
Some interesting facts about Mount Kilimanjaro!
Mount Kilimanjaro is both the tallest mountain on the African continent and the highest free standing mountain in the world.
Kilimanjaro is not part of a mountain range, but rather a single free- standing mountain which rises like a lone warrior above the plains of Tanzania and Kenya.
Kilimanjaro's summit is called Uhuru Peak which in English means 'Freedom'. Indeed this is a feeling that many climbers experience when they finally reach the 19 340 foot summit.
The oldest person to successfully reach Uhuru Peak was Valtee Daniel aged 87 years, so there's hope for me!
Your donation will really help the Hospice so whatever you can afford to give would be very much appreciated.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now!
Update 11/12/2009 - Kev has made it!! He called me from Nairobi today to say the climb had been the toughest thing he has ever done, but worth every step to get to the top of Kilimanjaro! Photo's and journal to follow......xx
