Hi everyone,
Well back again for one last (and it will be the last) stagger round the streets of Brussels with a final grovel up TervurenLaan to the finish - that is assuming that I get that far.
I think most of you will know me, Joe and our children Emily and Thomas but here we are again. Family life is very important to us and, over the years, in dealing with the challenges presented by Tom's autism there is no doubt that we have become closer and more appreciative of what we have. We also have many more family members that are important to us and who have been so supportive but unfortunately this year there is one fewer than before and I am therefore dedicating this effort to the memory of my father who we lost to cancer last October. However, any sponsorship I receive will continue to be for RETRAK as with last year.
For those of you not familiar with RETRAK, it is a charity that works with and for street children in Africa. Unfortunately, there are too many children living rough on city streets for whom the prospect of a happy family life is simply not possible and for them, the brutal reality is that simply surviving from one day to the next is their only objective. Many have no families left to turn to whilst others are too frightened of the consequences of returning home. It is hard to imagine a more desperate situation in any child’s life.
It is, however, possible to make a difference and RETRAK is a charity that makes a huge difference to the lives of all the children it helps. Just over a year ago when visiting her brother in Addis Ababa, Joe was fortunate enough to visit one of the RETRAK projects and witnessed first hand the caring, passion and commitment of the RETRAK team. It is almost impossible to express the extreme poverty that exists in these places and the resources that the RETRAK teams have to work with are pitiful, but the work that they do and the results they achieve are truly inspiring.
So, against this backdrop, my early morning scarifices and trvialised and the current economic crisis is truly put into perspective. I therefore resolved to do what I can to help and beg some more of your hard earned cash for a truly fantastic and deserving cause. Please help me to support RETRAK and allow them to continue making a difference to more children’s lives.
Thanks
Kevin
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: RETRAK gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation. What better way to deprive the government of taxes.
So please sponsor me now!
