Story
The Mongol Rally is in its seventh year and has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for various charities over the years. More details can be found on the Adventurist's website- http://mongolrally.the adventurists.com/
You can follow our progress on our website: donatemongolia.co.uk
Basically we're driving from London to Ulaanbaator, (Mongolia obviously) via Europe, Turkey, Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kygryzstan, Kazakhstan and Russia. The event starts on 24th July 2010 and it should take us about four weeks to complete the 11,000 mile trip.
The event is completely unsupported so if we break down in a desert, we're on our own. The car we drive will also be auctioned off when we finish to raise even more money for charity. We will be paying for all expenses, (car, fuel, visas, return flights etc) so everything donated is going to charity. Did we mention that the car we're driving is a 1.0 litre Nissan Micra...!
We are supporting four charities in total but as we can only have one charity per page below are the links to the other charities.

Mercy Corps
Mercy Corps projects reach out and improve the lives of many rural communities and vulnerable groups living in harsh conditions. These projects range from setting up schools,
building children’s playgrounds, providing home care trainings for families living with a member
who has a disability and establishing centres to combat alcohol abuse amongst youth to name a
few.
Some examples of what your donations will provide:
£ 1.50 will buy one tree sapling to help prevent Mongolian farmers from
overgrazing their pastures.
£6.50 will allow one unemployed or low income person to attend a business skills
training course.
£10 will pay for one person to be given practical employment training for 8 days
to learn a new trade, from carpet weaving to making horse riding accessories.
£26 will enable an unemployed woman to attend a 30 day training course on
vegetable growing.
£60 will provide text books for pupils in 5 rural schools.
£120 will provide a group of 20 people with life changing business skill trainings.
£200 will repair and equip a training room to teach skills to youth who are
unemployed and battling alcohol addiction.
£320 will buy tools such as sewing machines, shoe mending kit or farming tools
to help poor families generate an income for their family.
£400 will pay for a school library to be fully stocked with books.
