We are very pleased to report that Kibii and Venus completed the marathon on Sunday. Kibii finished the full 42km in 3 hours and 50 minutes. Venus suffered a knee injury but finished the half marathon in 2 hours and 25 minutes.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THEM BOTH!
and... thank you to everyone who donated. If you haven't donated yet there is still plenty of time!
Thank you once again and check the SPE website soon for more photos!
Thank you for visiting!
Kibii and Venus are running the marathon! Ok so it's not The London Marathon and it's not The New York Marathon.... it is even better... it is the Jinja Marathon! Kibii and Venus have both agreed to put themselves through the gruelling challenge of running 26 miles on Sunday 17th May in the blistering Ugandan sunshine - all for Soft Power Education!
For those of you who don't know these two - Kibii is our Volunteer Coordinator and Venus is our Manager at the Amagezi Education Centre. If you have done any kind of volunteering with Soft Power Education then you will have undoubtedly run into one or if not both of them. They have both worked with us for almost three years now and in that time we have welcomed over 3000 volunteers... just think how much money that is if every volunteer gives just £5! For those of you without strong maths skills .... it would be £15,000!! That's enough to build a brand new three classroom block.
What else could it pay for?
£5 will buy a shovel or 4 litres of paint
£10 will pay a tradesman for one week
£300 pays for all 8 pre school staff for one month
£1000 will refurbish a two classroom block
£15,000 will build a brand new three classroom block
Soft Power Education is a British registered charity and Ugandan NGO working to improve quality of life through education in Uganda. We work in 5 key areas:
- a School Refurbishment Programme - renovating, refurbishing and building classrooms
- Education Centres - fun, dynamic learning centres to complement class based learning for 27 partner schools
- Community Development Programmes - working to extend the potential of the education centres to adults and children from the local communities
- Conservation through partnerships
- Special Educational Needs - promoting inclusion rather than exclusion of children with disabilities
All funding goes directly towards these projects without wasting money on fancy London offices or high admin costs, the donations are spent right here in Uganda where they are needed most.
Kibii and Venus are busy training and ready to run... so dig deep!
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Soft Power Education gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
