Story

Thanks for the overwhelming kindness that people have shown in donating!

Anthony, Schmauzer and I have safely returned. What a gruelling experience! We had to amend the route as it wasn't safe at the top of some of the peaks due to extreme conditions! However, we are seriously tired and there was quite a lot of pain involved in the experience. At least it was my Knees and not my Kidney that caused any issue!

In summary, beautiful views and an amazing experience but I would probably suggest donating a kidney is easier :)

Again, thanks SO MUCH to everyone that donated and please keep donating blood and make sure you and others are registered on the organ donor register.

Thanks, James, Anthony, and of course, Schmauzer.

Schmauzer, Anthony and I decided to take on a physical challenge in order to help others learn more about donation and prove that you can lead an active healthy life after kidney donation. Furthermore, Schmauzer has tiny legs but between you and me I think we'll end up carrying him.

The challenge - Schmauzer, Anthony and I (James) will walk up 24 of the Lake District Peaks within a 24 hour period. Each peak is over 2,400 feet high and we will do this over 2 gruelling days. I appreciate that it will be a beautiful walk but from the planning I've done we are expecting to be walking for 12 hours on both days! Meaning we will be starting and finishing our walk in the dark (and probably rain).

Would you like to help?

Financial donations are welcome. We will send them on to Kidney Research UK so that they may make Kidney donation more effective and help save the lives of people with kidney disease. Please use this online donation facility or text PKTK73 and an amount £1-10 to 70070.

Blood donations - please give blood if you can. You never know when you might need some! I am needlephobic so if I can do it so can you. If you are worried about it then talk to your GP for more info.

Organ donations - are you on the organ donation register? We will all die someday and it's an unpleasant topic but you could save lives by registering (it takes two minutes online) and telling your family of your decision so that they can do it too and also won't overrule your wishes.

Kidney donation - I gave my kidney so a loved one could have one but I was blown away to find that some people donate to an unknown person! A true act of selfless empathy. It's not for everyone but the hospital will help you find out if its for you.
