International Medical Corps is working to relieve the suffering of those impacted by war, disaster and disease by delivering vital healthcare services that focus on training, helping devastated populations return to self-reliance.

Story

On Wednesday 26th September, following five days of intense trekking, the brave team endured a gruelling seven-hour hike in freezing temperatures and total darkness in order to finally reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Arriving at 6.30am local time, the team were able to watch the sunrise over as they planted the Lebanese flag on the 5895m peak in honour of their quest. They were also able to successfully complete a financial transaction on the Lebanese stock exchange achieving their goal of setting a record for the highest such transaction on earth!

The driving force behind their efforts is the need to raise £200,000 for International Medical Corps UK to complete funding for the rehabilitation of 30 schools for a project sponsored by UNICEF International.
Following the summer conflict of 2006 and years of neglect and under-investment, the schools are not suitable to provide high quality education. This funding is an essential first step in improving the quality of education for children around the country and giving them the chance for a better future.

Many thanks for your support

* All costs associated with the climb will be covered by the individual climbers.
