On 2nd October 2009 we will be flying out to Tanzania, Africa in an attempt to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in order to raise much needed funds for Fair Haven's Hospice & Little Haven's Childrens Hospice.
Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest freestanding mountain in the world and we will take the less-trodden Machame route in the hope that it will will allow us to fully appreciate the surroundings and (fingers crossed) clear night skies. We will pass through thick forest, moorland and rocky terrain on our way to the the snow-capped summit of Uhuru Peak, 5896m above sea level. It is the views from the summit and the sense of personal achievement that we hope will be our reward for pushing our limits both physically and mentally in aid of a very worthy cause.
It is hoped that through generous sponsorship and various Charity Events in the next 6 months we will be able to raise around £4,000 to assist Haven's Hospices in continuing to support and offer help to families both young and old. Please donate whatever you can afford in order to help support our chosen charity, all money donated on our Justgiving page goes directly to Haven's Hospices and if you are a UK taxpayer please remember to say YES to Gift Aid as the government promise to add a further 25% to your donation at no extra cost to you - so please sponsor us now!!!
Thank You so much for your support.
*************UPDATE*************
At approximately 09.10 on the morning of Thursday 8th October we managed to reach the summit and stood proudly at "The Roof of Africa". The experience was easily the most mentally and physically challenging experience either of us has ever put ourselves through. There were times when we wanted to stop or physically felt like we couldn't go on but remembering why we were there and how our challenge was nothing compared to those we were trying to help pushed us to the top. We would like to thank everybody for their fantastic support and also all of our fellow trekkers, porters and guides, it was an absolute privilige to spend that week with you guys. We will be keeping this page open until September 2010 if anybody else would like to donate and help us raise even more money for a fantastic cause. We cannot thank everybody enough for there kind donations which have helped us exceed what we believed would be a difficult target to achieve.
Thanks again!
Dan & Rich
