We did it!

We completed our trek on the Machame Route, Mt Kilimanjaro - the tallest free-standing mountain in the world - at 7.30am (East African time) on Thursday, 18 February 2010.  The summit, Uhuru Peak, stands 5895m amsl, where the oxygen is half what it is at sea level!  Every step we took at this altitude required every little bit of out hearts, bodies and souls to get there........ we both had to dig deep to make it.  Despite 4 days of lovely daylight trekking, we then faced an 8 hour steep ascent up to the summit starting at midnight in snow and strong winds.  We didn't get the promised views, but we certainly achieved what we set out to do - that is to fly the flag for fly2help.  Please continue to support our recent challenge by donating as much as you can to fly2help so they can continue to bring smiles to the faces of those who need it most!

fly2help uses flying as a means of "turning ordinary days into extraordinary adventures".  They work with the terminally ill, chronically sick, bereaved and people who may need a "life boost" - they could be suffering from neglect or abuse, be mentally ill or have a disability or injury.  fly2help gives all of these people an opportunity to leave their worries on the ground and be treated like a VIP!  Each beneficiary receives a bespoke event day which is recorded on camera providing them with invaluable, positive memories to be cherished.

We have voluntarily spent time working with fly2help and seen for ourselves what a difference it can make to a child or family in need of time-out.  Seeing them smile and experience the freedom of flight (some of which have never been flying before!) whilst letting them temporarily forget their worries, is priceless.

Everyday there are people, especially children, who are facing challenges which are stretching them physically, mentally and emotionally.   They are experiencing things that you or I will hopefully never have to contemplate.  Please support us and give whatever you can........

Huge thank yous from us both! XXX
