Thee Peaks Yacht Race · 2 June 2008

Sue Ryder is here to make sure everyone approaching the end of their life or living with grief can get the support they need. There is no one size fits all when it comes to how we cope and the help we need, but with our support, no one has to face dying or grief alone. We are there when it matters.

At the end of June the team aboard the yacht Kilva will be taking part in the Powerbar Three Peaks Yacht and along the way will be raising money for Sue Ryder Care.

Considered to be one of the toughest adventure races in the world the aim is to sail from Wales to Scotland, stopping off on the way to climb to the summits of Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis.  In short, that’s around 400 miles of tough sailing, 30 miles of cycling and 60 miles of running (the equivalent of 3 marathons in around 4 days).  It’s one of the most gruelling challenges anyone could put themselves through, and for the five team members aboard Kilva, that’s exactly what they’re doing!

The team consist of:  Skipper, Steve Robinson, sailors Dave Bird and Denis Howell, and runners Jan Turzynski and Catherine Robinson.  We’ve all been training hard - the sailors have found every sandy spot along the Menai Straights so hopefully we’ll avoid running aground, and the runners have been pounding the streets in preparation.

The race is tough and it will hurt a lot, so please give generously to this good cause.  If you’re still not convinced how gruelling this race is look at the Channel 4 documentary from the 2007 race.

Many thanks for your support

Steve, Dave, Dennis, Jan and Catherine
