Virgin London Marathon 2010 · 25 April 2010 ·

EVERY 90 SECONDS someone in the UK is admitted to hospital with an acquired brain injury (ABI). There are many possible causes, such as a fall, a road traffic accident, an assault, a tumour or a stroke. A brain injury can happen to anyone, at any time. When it does, we're here to help

Story

Hello, my name is Kim and I will be running the Virgin London Marthathon 2010 to raise money and awareness for Headway (brain injuries) charity.  This is charity is very close to my heart as my mum, Morag suffered an anyreusm in June 2008 aged 55.  Two weeks later she suffered a cerebal abcess (MRSA) in the brain, which meant further brain surgery and spent many weeks in high depenancy before being transferred to a brain injuries rehabilitaion unit and eventually home eight months later.  She now has mobility problems, epilepsy and speech and language difficulties.   I love my mum and admire her courage and determination which I hope will inspire me with my training and stamina on the big day.

It is very hard for suffers and their families to cope with injuries like these, Headway is a charity set up to give help and suport to people affected with brain injury.  It does so in many ways:

Locally using a network of locall groups and branches throughout the UK offering a wide range of services including rehabilitaion, carer support and respite.

They promote understanding of brain injury and its effects.

The Headway UK helpline provides information, advises on services and support and offers a listening ear to those experiencing problems.

They publish a range of booklets containing information about aspects of brain injury that are helpful to those directly affected, professionals, employers and members of the public.

Headway lobby for better support and resources and campaign for measures that will reduce the incidence of brain injury.

Please help me raise lots of money and awareness to a very worthwhile charity.  Thank you, thank you, thank you,

love Kim xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
