Having nothing better to do, they have decided to run 100 MILES IN 100 HOURS !!!!!!

Yes, 100 miles in 100 hours, which is the equivalent of FOUR marathons on consecutive days ! Starting Thursday May 19th, finishing on Sunday May 22nd !

WHY ???

Because there are always people worse off than youself !

Kim and Fi are running to raise funds for the current Re-Wired project, St. Monicah's school in Nakuru, Kenya. See www.stmonicahs.co.uk

The primary school of St Monicah is situated on the edge of the Kwa Murugi slum in Nakuru, Kenya. If you have seen the recent documentaries putting celebrities into the Kibera slum, well this slum in Nakuru is smaller, but very similar in the terrible living conditions. No electricity, no running water in houses, no proper sewage system, houses made mainly of wood and tin sheet.

Most of the children off these slums cannot afford to go to school, yet education is one of the main ways that they can eventually escape from these conditions. So Re-wired, through its project - Friends of St. Monicahs, is supporting this school, arranging sponsorship of the children, enabling the payment of teachers salaries, food for thechildren when at school, flooring for the classrooms.

So its hoped that by running 100 miles in 100 hours, funds can be raised to continue to support and develope this school, giving the children hope for the future. Most of these children are from very poor backgrounds, often with only one parent, or no parents. If they didn't go to school, they would probably drift into a life of glue sniffing and alcohol. St. Monicahs is transforming their lives.

As well as St. Monicahs, funds will also be used to support Bury St Edmunds Women's Aid Centre. This is a caring organisation which assists women and their children who are seeking refuge from domestic violence. The refuge offers safe accommodation, friendship and support to women and their children who are victims of domestic violence - whether emotional, physical, mental, sexual or financial abuse by their husbands, partners or relatives. Women who have suffered the humiliation of any form of abuse almost always need help in order to gain understanding and come to terms with what has happened in their lives.

The refuge offers them practical help in the task of rebuilding their lives at a time when confidence and self-esteem is at its lowest ebb. The refuge also seeks to met the needs of the children living in the refuge with their mothers, by the provision of play facilities which offer the opportunity for fun, creative and therapeutic supervised play activities.

They aim to provide accommodation of a high standard which comprises a a total of eight bedrooms capable of accommodating a total of 23 women and children at any one time. The facility consists of two sittings rooms , one dining room, three kitchens, three bathrooms, a quiet room/meeting room, an office, a counselling room and the play suite plus gardens and outdoor play equipment.

PLEASE HELP US MAKE A REAL DIFFERENCE TO THE CHILDREN OF THE KWA MURUGI SLUM, AND THE WOMEN IN THE BURY WOMANS AID CENTRE.

So the training schedule for the week looks something like this :-
Saturday morning is usually a 10 mile run. Sunday is a longer run, currently 14 miles although we are hoping to increase that to 16.

We then look to do a couple of mid week runs around the 7 to 10 mile distance and a couple of gym sessions (trying to increase core strength). So in all we train about 6 days a week.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
