Story
Thanks for visiting our Ride For Life page. As you've clicked on the link I guess that you already know why you're here, but in case you just found us by accident, here's a brief outline:
A very good friend of ours is suffering at the hands of inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) IBC Info and although she is fighting a very good fight right now, we want to raise some funds for a charity that has given her, and will give many, many others in the future, a fighting chance. There were two mixed teams of four of us and we were cycling from Leigh-on-Sea to Mersea Island (50 miles) at noon on Sunday, 2nd October outside the Crooked Billet in Old Leigh-on-Sea, Essex in an exercise bike relay race (whilst being pelted with wet sponges if we were suspected of slacking off or not pulling our weight!) in aid of the Breast Cancer Campaign.
The day was hot and I mean hot, under cover still did not give us much protection, water, sun cream and nerves of steel were all required for our mammoth task!
Why are we still worth sponsoring? We planned the event in a pub, over several pints. It's our natural habitat. As is the chippy, the Chinese and the Indian. Fit we are not - this will actually hurt us. This isn't a comfy event we can just stroll through with a wry smile and a dry brow, honestly. We needed the sponges. But we did it. We started with a modest aim of a £1500 goal which was quickly revised to £3000 but we have had to set that again higher at £5500. now we have completed the day we can see we have shattered that goal and together with Offline support including a cheque from Lloyd's of London for £1000 we stand perilously close to £10,000 at £8,443. So we felt we would keep the page open in the hope we could eek closer and closer over the next few months.
A very big thanks for your support.
