BUPA London 10,000 · 25 May 2009 ·

Our belief in health as a basic human right drives everything we do. That’s why we work with remote and marginalised communities to find sustainable solutions. We are African-led and therefore our understanding of the communities we work with, and the health challenges they face, is unparalleled.

Story

HI All

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page and welcome

Yes- I know its hard to believe but I'm going to attempt running the BUPA 10000 Race on the 25th of May 2009.  Initially I thought I would just run this as a challenge, so I decided to submit my entry form - however, all the entries had been taken and the only way to get a place was via a charity that had a number of allocated places.  I searched through the list of charities and came across one that really touched my heart - AMREF- a development organisation that focuses on health in the wonderful continent of Africa.

A little story on why this means so much to me. My Dad was working as an opthalmologist for an NGO in the most rural and remote areas of Africa and  by virtue of my dear Dad's job, we travelled to some of the poorest countries including Southern Sudan and Mozambique (at that time one of the poorest nations).  We eventually settled in the beautiful country of Zimababwe.  Through my experiences, we have come across people who are facing extreme poverty, who travelled nearly 15 miles by foot  to see an eye  doctor at the nearest clinic.  A lot of the diseases in Africa are preventable by simple measures.  It takes a little act of kindness from us to heal an entire village - be it funding a health programme or providing a borehole for fresh water.

Africa is so special  to me.  My experiences there have  taught me the true meaning of faith and love.  This is the reason I feel so honoured to be sponsoring AMREF.

Please  join me in collecting funds for the good work AMREF is doing in Africa - lets help communities bulid themselves and help children have the inherent right to good health!

May I take this opportunity to thank you - may God Bless You, protect you and guide you in all you do.

With Love, Kiran
