<p>After you have recovered by the shock of learning that I, Kirsten, am going to walk 110km in 3 days through Bosnia in the heat of July (yes I am training and yes I quit smoking a year ago) I hope you will read on. I have become very passionate about this charity. Women for Women International help women survivors of war rebuild their lives. Today constituting 70% of the world's poor, women are disproportionately affected by conflict - they are targeted for rape and violence, they are forced from their homes, they lose husbands, children and often ending up sole providers for their families. By providing training in rights awareness, job and business skills as well as leadership, the charity provides access to social and economic opportunities. Women for Women helps transform their lives and the lives of their children, families, and ultimately their communities.</p>
<p>Although the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina was more than 15 years ago, it toppled the economy and shattered lives. This year's March of Peace (Mars Mira) will mark the 17th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica. The 110km route is the same as the one taken in July 1995 by thousands of fleeing Bosnians however this March is done in the opposite direction as a symbolic return to Srebrenica. The aim of this March is to commemorate all those who lost their lives in this atrocity and to ensure it is never forgotten or repeated.</p>
