The Hibbs Lupus Trust was founded by the Hibbs family, born out of a personal journey with lupus and a desire to create meaningful change. Support is at the heart of everything we do. For those navigating the challenges of lupus, we provide a compassionate community and practical resources.

Story

<p>Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.</p> <p><strong>What is Lupus?</strong></p> <p style="margin-top: 1.6em; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1.6em; margin-left: 0px; border-image: initial; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-size: 13px; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: #ffffff; orphans: 4; font-family: &#39;Open Sans Condensed&#39;, sans-serif; line-height: 22px; padding: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;">Lupus causes the body&rsquo;s immune system to go into overdrive and in turn begins to attack itself. It is believed that over 50,000 people throughout the UK suffer with Lupus of whom 90% are female. The symptoms are many and varied, and the condition often seems to mimic other diseases. This gives rise to difficulty in diagnosis and the condition can be overlooked for years, unless the GP or consultant is alert to the possibility of lupus.</p> <p style="margin-top: 1.6em; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1.6em; margin-left: 0px; border-image: initial; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-size: 13px; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: #ffffff; orphans: 4; font-family: &#39;Open Sans Condensed&#39;, sans-serif; line-height: 22px; padding: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;">Symptoms can include; extreme fatigue, eye problems, joint/muscle pain, depression, miscarriage, hair loss, anaemia, facial and other rashes as well as the possible involvement of kidneys, heart, lungs or brain.</p> <p style="margin-top: 1.6em; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1.6em; margin-left: 0px; border-image: initial; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-size: 13px; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: #ffffff; orphans: 4; font-family: &#39;Open Sans Condensed&#39;, sans-serif; line-height: 22px; padding: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;">There is&nbsp;<strong style="border-image: initial; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; padding: 0px; margin: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;">NO CURE!&nbsp;</strong>The outlook for lupus varies widely as the symptoms can range from mild to severe. Many people will experience long periods of time with few or no symptoms before suddenly experiencing a sudden flare-up where their symptoms are particularly severe.&nbsp; However, even mild cases of lupus can have a considerable impact on a person&rsquo;s quality of life because many of the symptoms, particularly chronic fatigue, can be distressing and cause feelings of depression and anxiety.</p> <p><span style="background-color: #ffffff; font-family: &#39;Open Sans Condensed&#39;, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 22px; orphans: 4;">With good levels of support from friends, family and healthcare professionals, many people with lupus learn to manage their condition effectively.</span></p> <p><span style="background-color: #ffffff; font-family: &#39;Open Sans Condensed&#39;, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 22px; orphans: 4;">Visit www.hibbslupustrust.org for more information.</span></p> <p>Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
