Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page

Over 2020 I am going to undertake various walks  to raise money for Caudwell Charity. Some of them will be organised longer walks (currently signed up to walk a marathon and a 50km), some will be just normal over the Dover cliffs with Sam or whatever friend chooses to join me.

Caudwell Charity Is the charity that stepped up to help Sammy when he was young.

When sam was 2 years old  he had  a seizure the evening that he had his baby vaccinations. From that moment on sam lost the few words he had, started repetitive behaviours, screamed as if in pain most of the day, stopped sleeping  and was completely in his own world.

The other physical issue was his face became red and swollen everytime he ate and he had continuous diahrrea.

He clearly had stomach issues but no one would listen to us .He was diagnosed with Autism and this was always the reason we were given for physical issues Sam was clearly struggling deeply with.

Because Sam had very high pain threshold, and would not “complain enough” in front of the doctors when they examined him, they always put anything down to his autism.

So this was when the angels at Caudwell stepped in. They supported us and  helped sam get seen privately, and have blood tests and investigatory surgery.

So this is what we did, we got sam tested, he went on a special diet, had surgery (many times luckily at Great Ormond Street  whose staff were amazing)

To this day Sam is mainly gluten and dairy free and there are certain things we have to do to ensure his stomach stays healthy, exercise being one of them.

He has also been diagnosed with Lymes Disease which flares up when his immune system is low

So this is my thank you to the charity who literally saved Sams life and I get to tell the untold story that many people do not know of those years of no sleep and watching your child in pain, for the first time and how important it is to listen and watch and understand disabled children when they are showing signs of distress💗
