I still remember the day that we received the news. My beautiful gran had been diagnosed with cancer. We were told by the hospital that the bowel cancer was the "best" kind to have - the most easy to recover from, and that she would most likely make it through.
She made it through, but a few years later the cancer came back. Gran kept fighting for as long as she could, but sadly in September 2012, the cancer took over and my beautiful gran passed away.
One emotion that I felt the most strongly as Gran fought cancer was how unfair it was. How was it fair that I was still going to work, going partying, enjoying living my life when someone who was (in my eyes) one of the best, most kind and most loving people was suffering so badly?
Running this race won't bring back my Gran. But I know that she's proud of all of her daughters, son-in-laws and grandchildren for everything that we do - and that running this marathon in her name, and in her memory will make sure that she keeps on smiling down at us all.
